Howdy All!
Yesterday, I mentioned that Kellee, one of my sisters, and her husband Kent had a dog (Kadie) as well as a cow. Well, Kadie ate some D-con (rat poison) today and had a trip to the vet. Fortunately, it looks like she will be OK. Like I said, Kadie is like a child to Kent and Kellee.
I did something really stupid today. I was on my way home for lunch. I made a brief detour and picked-up a bag of ice at the corner convenience store. Then, I went home. However, I forgot about the bag of ice. I didn't discover it until I had returned to work an hour later. I wish I could say that was a rare occurence.
Well, I kept things nice and light in my first post. Today, I thought I might tackle a deeper subject: Surah 2:87-89 from the Koran (Qur'an). I am including three different English translations for the sake of clarity. After that is 2 Timothy 4:1-4 from the Bible, which is acknowledge by the Koran to have existed first. I am also including three different English translations of this passage for the sake of clarity. This is an interesting paring of thoughts. I'm just curious as to how you guys might respond to this paring of thoughts. I won't be judgmental so long as your comments are civil.
N.J. Dawood Translation:
87. To Moses We gave the Scriptures and after him We sent other apostles. We gave Jesus the son of Mary veritable signs and strengthened him with the Holy Spirit. Will you then scorn each apostle whose message does not suit your fancies, charging some with imposture and slaying others? 88. They say: 'Our hearts are sealed.' But Allah has cursed them for their unbelief. They have but little faith. 89. And now that a Book confirming their own has come to them from Allah, they deny it, although they know it to be the truth and have long prayed for help against the unbelievers. May Allah's curse be upon the infidels!
Next Translation (taken from Jewish Virtual Library):
[87] We gave Musa the Book and followed him up with a succession of Messengers; We gave 'Isa, the son of Maryam, Clear (Signs) and strengthened him with the Holy Spirit. Is it that whenever there comes to you a Messenger with what ye yourselves desire not, ye are puffed up with pride? Some ye called impostors, and others ye slay!
[88] They say: "Our hearts are the wrappings (which preserve Allah's Word: we need no more)." Nay, Allah's curse is on them for their blasphemy: little is it they believe.
[89] And when there comes to them a Book from Allah, confirming what is with them - although from of old they had prayed for victory against those without Faith - when there comes to them that which they (should) have recognized. They refused to believe in it but the curse of Allah is on those without Faith.
M.H. Shakir Translation:
[2.87] And most certainly We gave Musa the Book and We sent apostles after him one after another; and We gave Isa, the son of Marium, clear arguments and strengthened him with the holy spirit, What! whenever then an apostle came to you with that which your souls did not desire, you were insolent so you called some liars and some you slew.
[2.88] And they say: Our hearts are covered. Nay, Allah has cursed them on account of their unbelief; so little it is that they believe.
[2.89] And when there came to them a Book from Allah verifying that which they have, and aforetime they used to pray for victory against those who disbelieve, but when there came to them (Prophet) that which they did not recognize, they disbelieved in him; so Allah's curse is on the unbelievers.
2 Timothy 4:1-4
King James Bible
1 I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;
2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.
3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
New American Bible (Catholic)
1. I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingly power: 2. proclaim the word; be persistent whether it is convenient or inconvenient; convince, reprimand, encourage through all patience and teaching. 3. For the time will come when people will not tolerate sound doctrine but, following their own desires and insatiable curiosity, will accumulate teachers 4. and will stop listening to the truth and will be diverted to myths.
New American Standard
1 I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom:
2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction.
3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires,
4 and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths.
Well that's all for today. Have a great one!
